Schulleiterbesuch aus Wales

Vom 14. bis zum 17. Oktober 2018 war Kevin Phelps, Leiter unserer Partnerschulen in Tavernspite und Templeton (Wales, UK), zu Besuch an der BUW. Er unterstützt seit über 10 Jahren das PrimA Programm, indem er jedes Jahr Praktikumsplätze für Wuppertaler Lehramtsstudierende bereitstellt, sie während ihrer Zeit in Wales betreut und unter seinen Schulleitungskollegen engagiert für PrimA wirbt.

Bei seinem ersten Aufenthalt in Wuppertal erhielt Herr Phelps zunächst Einblicke in universitäre Lehrveranstaltungen. Er besuchte verschiedene Seminare in der Anglistik/Amerikanistik, darunter auch den Kurs „Bilingual Studies Abroad I“, welcher die Teilnehmenden in PrimA 2019 auf ihre Zeit in England und Wales vorbereitet. Hier beantwortete die zahlreichen Fragen, die Studentinnen und Studenten an ihn stellten, und lernte die Praktikantinnen kennen, die ihren Auslandsaufenthalt im kommenden Jahr an seinen Schulen absolvieren. In weiteren Lehrveranstaltungen der Fachdidaktik Englisch hielt er Vorträge über Bilingualismus in Wales sowie das Bildungssystem im Vereinigten Königreich.

Da Kevin Phelps selbst Schulleiter zweier Grundschulen ist, besuchte er auch die Grundschul-werkstatt auf dem Campus Freudenberg und das Schülerlabor der Biologie, genannt Bell Bio. Außerdem erkundete er neben der Elberfelder Innenstadt auch den Grifflenberg, um das Universitätsleben näher kennenzulernen. Zu seinem dreitägigen Aufenthalt gehörten des Weiteren eine Fahrradtour auf der Nordbahntrasse sowie ein Abendessen in der Uni-Kneipe.

15 Dezember 2014: Der DAAD (Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst) zeichnete Prof. Dr. Bärbel Diehr und die Bergische Universität Wuppertal für ihren nachhaltigen Beitrag zur internationalen Mobilität von Lehramtsstudierenden mit dem Preis "Committed to Uniqueness 2014" aus. Die Preisverleihung fand in der Akademie der Wissenschaften in Berlin statt.
